Just One Cupcake
I made 6 cupcakes today. I made them with the leftover batter from the last part I needed for Delaney's castle cake. Delaney, of course, saw them and wanted one. My response was to tell her that if she ate a good dinner and was a good girl at the gym nursery while Mommy took her Body Pump class, she could have a cupcake when we got home. She lived up to her end of the bargain, for the most part. What happened when we returned from the gym was the funny part. As soon as we pulled into the garage, Delaney announced that she wanted out of the car first. As soon as her feet hit the garage floor she tore off into the house. I had actually forgotten all about the cupcake...but as soon as I entered the house with baby Jonathan I realized that she hadn't. She already had a cupcake in her hands, unwrapped and starting to devoir it. It wasn't even frosted! I took it from her, gently reminding her that it wasn't frosted yet. So I opened a can of icing and spread some of it on the top of the partially eaten cupcake and gave it back to her. My parting words to her as I took the baby upstairs to put him to bed was to not eat any more cupcakes. She did as she was told. Instead, when I came down from putting Jonathan to bed, I found that she had helped herself to about 1/4 cup of the frosting from the can. She quickly held her fingers up and let me know that she had only had 3 tastes. I said, "How many?" Then she changed her answer and fingers to five. It was hard to stifle a smirk because her little fingers and face were covered in icing. Lesson for today... be absolutely specific with your instructions to an almost 3-year-old. And the laughs keep coming!

Yummy, Dirt!
My son ate dirt today. We were at a birthday party for our friend's daughter who turned one. Lo always goes all out for her kids' birthdays and today was no exception. She had a craft section set up where the kids could plant Impatients into Mickey Mouse cups. There was a big bin of potting soil that Jonathan was having fun digging in. I looked away from him for a minute and when I looked back, Lo was asking me where Jonathan got a brownie from. No, no brownie, just a huge clump of dirt that he decided to take a big bite out of. Yuck! His tongue was covered in dirt! I tried to clean him up as best I could but the dirt snack really didn't phase him. He was off on his next adventure quite quickly. I guess that extra little dose of plant food might give him a growth spurt tonight. It's hard to believe that Delaney turns 3 tomorrow!Where did the time go? It seems just yesterday she was growing in my belly and now she's a walkin', talkin', sassin' 3 year old. I have a lot to get done tonight before her birthday party tomorrow so this will have to be brief. I am taking on a princess castle cake. I hope it turns out okay. Plus, I haven't even started her birthday video. It may just have to wait a week or so. I am exhausted from Jonathan being out of town all week. I'm really going to try though. But I have to keep in mind that she won't care now about the video, what she will remember is the time I spent with her on her birthday making it a special time for her. I just have to keep that perspective when the pangs of guilt at not being perfect mommy creep into my mind.
